# How big is the Curiosity app on my hard drive

The index is the largest part of the Curiosity app. You check in the app how much disk space it's using:

  1. In the left bar, click the cog (⚙️) icon for Preferences
  2. Go to the section Storage in the sidebar
  3. For disk usage, check the number next to Size (1-5GB is normal)
  4. You can also see how many files, contacts and emails are indexed, and how much disk space you have left

# Why move the index to a different folder or drive

By default, the Curiosity app stores data in your user folder.

You can move the Curiosity index to a different location (folder or drive). That can be helpful:

  • If you're low on disk space
  • If you're indexing a large number of files and emails (>500GB) and the index gets large

# How to move the index to a different folder

To change the location where the index is stored (e.g. to a different drive):

  1. In the left bar, click the cog (⚙️) icon for Preferences
  2. Go to the section Storage in the sidebar
  3. Next to Path click the pencil (✏️) icon (Move index storage to a new location)
  4. In the file browser window that appears, select where you want to store the index
  5. Click Continue and confirm your choice

The index will be moved to the new location. It only takes a minute or two (depending on your hardware).
