# How to change which file types are indexed for search

To change which file types you want indexed for search:

  1. In the left bar, click the cog (⚙️) icon to open Preferences
  2. Go to the section File Search in the left bar
  3. Under Searchable Types, click the file type you want to activate/deactivate
  4. You can add more extensions separated by a comma under Other file extensions (for example: *.docx, *.xlsx, *.pdf)

# Notes

  • If you hover your mouse over the file types (e.g. Slides, Documents, Sheets, Books etc.), you can see which extensions are included in each category.
  • You can choose to index certain file types for Content Search only on your computer, or only on your apps - just activate/deactivate the corresponding checkbox.
  • You can determine a date range for files to be indexed under File content search period (for example: files updated in the last month, files updated in the last year).
  • The app can index files up to 250 MB in size, with a few exceptions. For locally stored videos, audio, and zip files, the limit is 25 GB. For apps, the limit is 5 GB.
